A lot of hype has been surrounding Jonas Wind’s name for quite some time now, and rightly so. The Denmark international racked up impressive numbers during his time at Copenhagen, and he did it consistently, too.

This secured him a move to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg in January 2022, and after a slow and steady start, Wind’s career is finally picking up some pace, and the forward seems to be finding form at the right time again.

The below visualisation shows where Wind ranks for some of the key metrics in the season so far when compared with the other centre-forwards from Europe’s top five leagues.

Only four other centre-forwards have scored more goals than Jonas Wind’s seven goals in Europe’s top five leagues in the season so far. Jonas Wind’s physicality is one of his biggest strengths. He quite often drops deep to hold up play.

That could also be one of the reasons why he does not rank very high for touches in the penalty area per 90 minutes. He is also not an excellent dribbler, as per the numbers.

His xG per 90 of 0.79 is marginally higher than that of even Harry Kane. Wind was always known for his instinctive finishing ability during his time at Copenhagen. Even though he has taken time to settle at Wolfsburg, he has continued his excellent finishing form in front of goal, with his seven goals coming from an xG of 5.7 — a slight overperformance, just like most of the time during his career so far.

Jonas Wind has continued to shine at the international stage, too, for Denmark, with the forward now consistently starting games and recently excelling during the European Championship qualification.

Wind seems to have finally found his touch and has been consistently starting games at club and country level, and there is only one direction now for the centre-forward — moving forward and scoring more goals as he edges towards the prime years of his career.
