At the end of every season, there is a loan-success story for Chelsea. Several players who have left Chelsea on loan have gone on to become first-team regulars. Reece James and Mason Mount are the best examples in recent seasons of players who have had success on loan away from the club then subsequently made their statement as a first-team Chelsea player. Another one who could be added to that list very soon is Levi Colwill who was on loan at Huddersfield Town for the 2021/22 Championship season. At the time of the writing, Colwill will look to help Huddersfield secure promotion to the Premier League.

The following visualisation shows where Colwill ranks for the some of the key defending metrics when compared with the other center-backs from the EFL Championship for the 2021/22 season.

Levi Colwill, England U21 international, has made 30 appearances in the Championship and has been an important player in the Terriers’ run to the Playoffs Finals. From the radar move, the 19-year-old defender looks to be an allround center-back. His biggest strength looks to be his passing, ranking in the 72nd percentile for passes into penalty area per 90 minutes, 66th percentile for passes into final third per 90 minutes and 50th percentile for key passes per 90 minutes. Colwill is always looking to pass forward and that is indicated in the radar. Colwill also ranks in the bottom tier for PAdj. sliding tackles – just the 33rd percentile. This also means that he isn’t always committing into dangerous tackles. He ranks a mere 38th percentile for PAdj. interceptions. This is one aspect of his game that he might have to improve along with his aerial ability.

Levi Colwill has recieved all the praise he deserves for the excellent season he has had at Huddersfield. With a number of departures expected at Chelsea, especially in the backline, it wouldn’t be surprising if Colwill is given the chances to make a name for himself in the Chelsea first-team next season.
