It will be an understatement to say that Andreas Weimann has been one of the star performers at Bristol City since his move from Derby County in 2018. Weimann finished as the top scorer for Bristol City last season and the 31-year-old was the difference between Bristol City finishing in relegation and outside of relegation. The Austrian international has already started this season well scoring in all but one league game so far.
The following visualisation shows where Andreas Weimann ranked for some of the key metrics last season.
Andreas Weimann finished last season with 22 goals (14.54 xG) in the EFL Championship. Only Mitrović and Solanke had more goals than Weimann. However, as we can see in the visual above, Weimann ranked only in the 53rd percentile for Expected Goals(xG) per 90 minutes. This goes on to show how excellent Weimann’s finishing is. Not just scoring, Weimann was also key part of creativity at Bristol City. He had the second-most assists at Bristol City. Weimann ranked in the 81st percentile for assists per 90 minutes among center-forwards and attacking midfielders in the EFL Championship during the 2021/22 season. Weimann ranked a lowly 28th percentile for dribbles per 90 minutes and he is not as quick as someone would expect him to be. He also, surprisingly, only ranked in the 42nd percentile for Touches in box per 90 minutes.
Andreas Weimann was a key player at Bristol City last season and the Robins were lucky to have escaped relegation last season. They have once again had a slow start to the season and will most definitely want Weimann to continue the form from last season if they want to stay away from that relegation battle.
