Millwall are currently sixth in the Championship table and there is a very good chance that they finish in the playoff spots. Millwall have one of the form teams of 2023 and one player who has played an important role in helping the London club rise up the table is forward Tom Bradshaw.
The experienced striker is Millwall’s leading scorer this season and has scored 10 goals since the turn of the year. Playing in his fifth full season at Millwall, after having joined the club on loan initially in 2018, Bradshaw is already close to having his best career tally in terms of goals.
The below visualization shows where the 30-year-old Bradshaw ranks for some of the key metrics when compared with the other centre-forwards in the Championship 22/23.
Playing as a lone striker in Millwall’s 4-2-3-1, Bradshaw has the most goal contributions (goals and assists) for Millwall this season. His goal tally for the season is also on par with his expected goals, meaning he is neither underperforming nor overperforming. What has been most impressive is his form since the turn of the year. The forward has scored in five of his last seven league games (at the time of the writing). This impressive form has also earned Bradshaw a recall to the Wales team for the upcoming qualifiers.
Bradshaw is one of those typical centre-forwards, always closer to the box and at the right place at the right time. He is among the high-volume shooters in the EFL Championship — ranking in the top 20% for shots attempted on goal. Another big strength of his is his aerial ability as seen in the visual above. Bradshaw is not someone who is quite frequently involved in the build-up by dropping deep but he is someone who knows how to make that run to create space for himself and find the back of the net.
Millwall have been on the rise of late and have a very good shot at making the playoffs but if they are to maintain this momentum, then they will need their talisman and 30-year-old Tom Bradshaw to keep scoring.
