We are in that phase of the season where the EFL games are going to be coming thick and fast. The teams who have dropped to the EFL Championship from the Premier League — Leicester City, Southampton and Leeds United are all having decent seasons so far, with Leicester City flying at the moment, and of the teams promoted — Ipswich Town could not have asked for a better start to life back in the Championship, Plymouth Argyle are in good form but Sheffield Wednesday the only club of all 24 teams without a win yet.
The below visualisation shows all the 24 teams’ goals scored and goals conceded after 13 match weeks into the season.
Leicester City are not only top of the table but have scored the most goals in the league (27), one more than Ipswich Town (26), with Ipswich playing a game less. Norwich City are third for goals scored with 24 goals scored.
Sheffield Wednesday have scored the fewest goals in the league, with the Owls scoring just five goals so far, followed by QPR, who have scored just nine goals. Fellow relegation contenders Rotherham, having played one game less, complete the bottom three for goals scored, scoring just 12 goals so far. Stoke City, Millwall and Huddersfield Town have also struggled in front of the goal and are the only three other teams to score less than 15 goals at the time of writing.
Defensively, for goals conceded, Leicester City have the best record, conceding only seven goals so far. Ipswich Town once again come second behind Leicester City in this with the tractor boys conceding 13 goals so far. Birmingham, who recently experienced a surprise change of manager, have conceded the joint third-fewest goals (14). Leeds United, West Brom, Bristol City are the other teams who have conceded just 14 goals. Sheffield Wednesday, surprisingly, are not bottom for goals conceded.
That place goes to three teams — Norwich City, Southampton, and QPR — with all three teams conceding 24 goals. Southampton and Norwich have a big job on their hands defensively if they are to push for Promotion.
