The EFL Football League is one of the most exciting groups of leagues in the world. The number of teams competing, the volume of matches and the competitiveness make League One one of the leagues to watch out for every year. This season, the top two, Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday, are comfortably away from the rest in the table and look clear favourites to get promoted. Below them, there is a real race for the teams to compete in the playoffs and win that third promotion spot to the Championship.
The below visualisation highlights that are in the playoffs race after 33 match weeks into the 2022/23 League one season.
Below Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday are Bolton Wanderers with 58 points. Bolton Wanderers, a club with a big history, after having finished ninth in the League One table last season, have won their last four games and will look to carry this momentum to the final weeks of the season.
Below them are Ipswich, who were excellent at the start of the season under manager Kieran McKenna, are struggling for some consistency of late and have drawn the second-most games this season. If McKenna’s men are to get promoted, they will want to convert these draws into wins.
Next up in the table are Derby and Barnsley who were both relegated from the Championship last season. After somewhat difficult starts to the season, both these clubs have picked up form since the world cup and the beginning of the year to be where they are right now. The reds however have two games in hand over Bolton. Closing the race for playoffs are Wycombe, Shrewsbury and Peterborough United with the three teams separated by six points.
Barnsley, Bolton and Derby will rely on their defensive records which have been among the best in League One so far, whereas Ipswich and Peterborough will rely on their attacking form to win the playoff race.
