Swindon Town’s Jake Young is one of the form strikers in English football. The 22-year-old has had an impressive start to the season so far.

At the time of writing, Swindon Town are third in the League Two table but have played one game less, and it is by no means a surprise given their swashbuckling form in front of the goal so far.

The Robins have scored 22 goals so far and have one of the best goalscoring records in all four tiers of English football this season so far.

The visualisation below shows the numbers from the Robins’ star man – Jake Young. The centre forward’s season looked in question after parent club Bradford City discarded him, but the 22-year-old finally secured a move to Swindon Town and has taken everyone by surprise with his form so far.

Jake Young has scored nine goals from an xG of 3.03 — a finishing master class, it could be called, or an overperformance by a considerable margin. It will be interesting to see how long Young can continue this ruthless streak in front of goal.

Jake Young also has two assists to his name from an xA of 0.27. His four goals and one assist in one game against Crawley Town is the season’s performance so far in all of English football.

Looking at the visual above, Young’s defensive numbers don’t look very solid, but his attacking output is something to be in awe of so far. Ranking in the top 20% for Shots attempted per 90 minutes when compared with the centre forwards from similar leagues in terms of difficulty, Young has the best goal conversion in League Two. He has also attempted the third most dribbles per 90 in League Two.

Jake Young has had an impressive loan spell so far. His numbers look big and strong at the start of the season. The Robins will be trying to push for promotion to League One and will rely on their talisman centre-forward to continue this form throughout the season.
