Croatia and Czech Republic faced off in the second matchday for Group D in EURO 2020 at Hampden Park, Glasgow, and ultimately shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw that keeps Croatia’s hopes of qualifying for the round of 16 alive. Croatia came into this match on the back of a 1-0 defeat to England at Wembley, while the Czech Republic picked up a memorable 2-0 win over Scotland at the same venue, with a goal of the tournament contender from Patrik Schick. There was not much action of note in the first half, but the Czech Republic took the lead through Schick again after they were awarded a penalty following Dejan Lovren’s arm into his face. This was an accidental collision, albeit it did leave Schick bleeding from this nose, but the VAR and referee thought otherwise and gave the Czechs a penalty, which Schick converted for this third goal at EURO 2020, making him the top scorer at the moment. Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic made two changes at half-time to try and spark some life into his team, and they duly obliged, as Ivan Perisic scored a fantastic goal to level things up. Both sides had chances to win the match, but could not take them and thus shared a point apiece, which does put the Czech Republic in a strong position while giving Croatia some hope of qualifying as well.
