The last matchday of the group stages at EURO 2020 continued on Monday, with Group C in action, as Ukraine faced Austria and the Netherlands took on North Macedonia. North Macedonia would be bidding farewell to the legendary Goran Pandev after this match, so it was definitely an emotional occasion for them, while Frank de Boer made a couple of changes to his lineup, bringing in Ryan Gravenberch and Donyell Malen to freshen things up a little bit. North Macedonia have been quite impressive throughout this EURO 2020 campaign, even if they had not been able to pick up a win, and they troubled the Netherlands as well, pressing high and forcing turnovers, one of which led to Ivan Trichkovski scoring past Maarten Stekelenburg, but the goal was unfortunately ruled out for offside. Aleksandar Trajkovski hit the post as well a few minutes later, and North Macedonia were giving the Netherlands quite a fright; however, they went behind soon after with a move that originated in the Netherlands half. Malen received the ball from Memphis Depay and went on a run into the Macedonia half before squaring it for his teammate to score. De Boer switched things around at the break, moving to a 4-3-3, and the Oranje then took control with two goals in ten minutes from captain Georginio Wijnaldum. The Netherlands were thus able to secure a comfortable 3-0 win to finish on nine points from their three group games, while North Macedonia bowed out of EURO 2020, having impressed and entertained a lot of observers.
