One of the many clever signings in the summer transfer window was Stade Rennes snapping up Fabian Rieder from Young Boys – xGOLD first highlighted Rieder as a midfielder matching the profile of Lucas Paqueta, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes meaning we tracked him closely, our TIPPSTER model grading him as potential high-impact Tier 1 player.

Who is Fabian Rieder?

Fabian Rieder is a tenacious, young midfielder who looked best suited to playing right behind a more physically dominant striker. He was very creative on the ball and constantly looked to pick out the run of a teammate with his through balls while also looking to move into the box himself to test the keeper from range. He was excellent from set pieces and looked capable of both scoring and assisting from these situations. Rieder did well to chase the ball down when having to defend as well and made some excellent interceptions in the process. He also did well to press in a high line but seemed to be far from competent when it came to making more robust challenges to win back possession.
