The 2023/24 League Two season has been a joyous ride for everyone following. The division has seen some amazing goals, high-scoring thrillers, and brilliant young talent rise to the challenge.
Of the talent to emerge this season are some of the full-backs who have regularly upped their attacking game to feature among the best for offensive contributions. The visualisation below highlights the full-backs with the most goal contributions this term.
Notts County are at the wrong end of the table, 17th, despite their summer signing Jodi Jones having a stellar campaign thus far. The right-footed left-back/left wing-back has the most assists (20) in the division. Jones also has five goals to his name in addition to this.
The defender, however, should be thanking his teammates for their excellent finishing because his 20 assists have come from an xA of just 12.31.
Following Jones in the table for most goal contributions among full-backs is Joe Tomlinson of MK Dons. With 10 goal contributions — six goals and four assists — Tomlinson is the only other full-back to touch double digits for goal contributions in League Two. Contrary to Jones, Tomlinson should have had more assists than he has provided, as his expected assists value is 7.84.
Next up are James McClean of Wrexham and Rio Adebisi of Crewe Alexandra, who are tied with nine goal contributions and have the same number of goals and assists.
The only player in the top five full-backs with the most goal contributions who predominantly plays on the right is Aaron Nemane of Notts County. The defender with the highest xG in the league among full-backs, he has scored six—the joint-most—and two assists to his name as well.
Shoutouts also go to Gillingham’s Remeao Hutton, who has the highest xA of 12.63 but has only got four actual assists to his name.
Shane McLoughlin of Newport County, Will Wright and Nicholas Tsaroulla — both of Crawly Town — all have eight goal contributions to their names but lose out on featuring in the top five due to their respective goals scored tallies.
