Robert Lewandowski was the top goalscorer in every competition he played in last season.

After a fantastic season for Lewandowski there was no doubt he will continue scoring in the new season as well. He had a strong start to this season as well scoring 10 goals in five appearances, he only failed to score against Hoffenheim where he was on the bench until 54th minute. Below we can see his shot map in the Bundesliga, excluding his two penalties. The yellow markers are the goals and the bigger the marker equates to a higher xG value of the shot.

Lewandowski scored 10 goals from 29 shots. Interestingly, almost half of them (13) came against Hertha Berlin, which resulted with four goals, three from open play and one penalty. Lewandowski’s biggest xG shot from open-play had a value of 0.52, and it came against Arminia Bielefeld. He missed that chance, showing that even the best finishers can miss easy chances. We can see that most of his shots are from inside the penalty area with only three shots from outside. That is the sign of a smart and experienced striker who knows from where he can endanger the opponent the most, but also that he has quality teammates who can deliver the ball into the penalty area. Most recently he scored a perfect hattrick against Eintracht Frankfurt. Bayern, by signing Leroy Sane and Douglas Costa, added additional quality to support Lewandowski in the attack. Now Bayern looks unstoppable upfront. Kramarić and Håland will push Lewandowski to an even better scoring record because both of them started strong and could be on course for a 20 or more goals season.

Conclusion

Lewandowski is surely at his goalscoring peak as he scores for fun each week. The prolific centre-forward is on his way to score more than 30 goals in the Bundesliga. Supported by such a talented squad he could also beat his last season record of 55 goals in all competitions. Currently he is the number one centre-forward in the world and he is not showing signs that he will slow down in the near future.
