One player from Ligue 1 who has been spoken about quite often in recent times is Toulouse’s Branco van den Boomen. The 27-year-old midfielder signed for the French club in the summer of 2020 and played a massive role in helping Toulouse get back to Ligue 1 in 2022. This season, he has once again been key to his club’s push towards the upper half of the league table.

The below visualization shows where the Branco van den Boomen ranks for some of the key metrics when compared with players who’ve played in a similar position to his this season.

Branco van den Boomen has five goals and seven assists to his name (at the time of writing). This is the most among the Toulouse players this season — and this is after posting record numbers in Ligue 2 last season. The midfielder has also captained Toulouse in some games this term.

Playing on the left side of midfield and supported by a back three, Van den Boomen ranks above average for goal contributions per 90 in Ligue 1. On the ball, he is always looking forward and not sideways — ranking 67th percentile for Progressive passes per 90 minutes.

Defensively, the role he plays at club level doesn’t require him to make a lot of defensive actions. However, the Dutch midfielder still needs to improve his defensive game.

Branco van den Boomen has risen highest to accept the challenge of replicating his Ligue 2 performances in Ligue 1. It is now time for him to show some consistency in the weeks ahead and very soon, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is on the radar of top European clubs.
