Tottenham Hotspur are having one of the worst possible seasons both on and off the pitch. Manager Antonio Conte was sacked recently and a number of their summer signings have not worked out.

One such signing was Djed Spence. The right wing-back was brought in from Middlesborough after an impressive loan spell with promotion-winning Nottingham Forest last season. Spence, however, has played a grand total of less than 10 minutes for Spurs this season and moved to Ligue 1 club Rennes in the winter window.

Since then, Spence has been a regular at the French club. The below visualisation shows how Djed Spence has fared during his time in France so far.

Djed Spence is an athletic young player who can play as a right-back or as a right wing-back. The 22-year-old, originally of the Fulham academy, has so far played in the lower divisions of England and is making the step up to the elite of European football only this year. He is not afraid to take on his opponent as seen above in his percentile rank for dribbles per 90 minutes (95th percentile).

Defensively, he ranks above average for his positioning and success in his aerial duels. A regular for Forest last season, Spence is used to playing higher up the field and is not afraid to carry the ball forward.

The sample size to analyse his performance over the course of the season is too small but history and Spence’s brilliance in the few games he has played shows a lot of potential.

If his numbers from last season are to be believed, things might work out for Spence next season for Tottenham under a new manager. Given that Conte had already mentioned that it was the club’s signing and not his, Spence will have his chance next to prove his worth to everyone at Spurs.
