After analyzing Serie A we now move to the Spanish top-division La Liga.
First, we will look at each season between 2016/2017 and 2019/2020 (until matchday 30) to analyze which clubs achieved better results between these variables. Then, we will examine the 14 clubs that remained on La Liga during these seasons and how they performed compared with how much they paid on average per player.
2016/2017
In the edition of 2016/2017, Real Madrid won the competition presenting the 2nd highest annual average salary per player.
From a positive perspective, Alavés achieved the 9th position in the competition with only the 3rd lowest average salary amount per player. In the opposite perspective, Valencia was the case with less success finishing in the 12th place with the 4th highest average annual salary per player.
Atlético Madrid and Athletic Bilbao presented the same position in the salaries ranking as they did in the competition.
2017/2018
In the next season, Barcelona won the league with the highest annual average salary per player.
Getafe was the surprise achieving the 8th position in the league with only the 17th highest salary value. On the opposite side, Athletic Bilbao was the case with less success finishing in the 16th place with the 6th highest amount per player.
Barcelona and Valencia presented the same position in the salaries ranking as they did in the competition.
2018/2019
In the last edition of the La Liga it was not different and Barcelona won once more the competition presenting the highest annual average salary per player.
From a positive perspective, Getafe achieved the 5th position in the competition with the 16th highest salary value. In the opposite perspective, Celta was the case with less success finishing in 17th place with the 8th highest average annual salaries per player.
Barcelona, Valencia, Real Betis and Huesca presented the same position in the salaries ranking as they did in the championship.
2019/2020
With 30 matches played, Barcelona and Real Madrid are fighting once more for the championship with the highest annual average salaries per player.
On the positive side, Getafe is performing again incredibly well in the 5th position in the competition with the 14th highest salary amount per player. In the opposite perspective, Espanyol is, at the moment, the case with less success occupying the last place with the 11th highest average annual salaries per player.
Atlético Madrid and Mallorca have, so far, presented the same position in the salaries ranking as they did in the league.
2016/2017 to 2019/2020 – Which club profits more from the players’ salaries
Finally, we analyzed the performance and salaries of the 14 clubs that took part in the La Liga between 2016/2017 and 2019/2020 (until matchday 30).
The giant Barcelona is the club with the highest average annual salary per player. Alavés is the club with more success when comparing sporting performance and salaries since, on average, it achieved the 12th place with only the 16th highest average amount per player.
