Wolves had one of the worst possible transfer windows that saw their now-former manager, Julen Lopetegui, depart, with former Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil appointed just days before the Premier League started.

Amidst all the doom for the Midlands club so far – both on and off the pitch, one of the brightest sparks has been the return to the form of attacker Pedro Neto.

The 23-year-old missed the major part of last season because of an injury but returned to action towards the back end of last season when Wolves were in the middle of a relegation battle.

The below visualisation shows where Pedro Neto ranks for some key metrics compared to the other right-wingers from Europe’s top-five leagues.

Pedro Neto has the joint-most assists this season (four), tied with Mohamed Salah. The forward has mostly played as a right winger so far but has also been used from the other side. Left-footed Pedro Neto is indeed most effective when played from the right side.

Among wingers to have played at least 150 minutes, Neto has attempted the most dribbles per 90 minutes (6.58), creating chances from dribbling and attacking the space ahead of him. The winger has also attempted the most crosses per 90 minutes (5.16).

Neto, however, should be thankful to his teammates because, from an xA of 1.63, the Portuguese attacker has four assists to his name so far.

Neto is, however, yet to find the back of the net so far, but that is in line with his goalscoring output so far – ranking below average for shots per 90 minutes and xG per 90 minutes.

Defensively, Neto is hard-working and pressures the opponent from the front, but he still has to improve in that aspect. With 3.74 successful defensive actions per 90, Neto is way behind some of his peers for that metric but does have the ability and the tactical set-up to improve on that.

Wolves will be hoping that the return to form of Pedro Neto can help push Wolves avoid the relegation battle for most of the season and finish this season higher in the table.
