Luton Town are in the Premier League this season, which means they will have to step up their game on and off the pitch if they are to beat the odds and stay in the division for at least one more season, and that is not going to be easy — especially given their financial weight.

In the transfer window, the Hatters have added players for their starting XI and depth, which is much needed to survive the brutal intensity of playing in the top flight of English football. One of their additions is forward Jacob Brown from Stoke City for a club-record fee. The 25-year-old was one of the regulars for Stoke City during his three seasons there.

The below visualisation shows where the latest Hatters’ signing ranked for some key metrics compared with the other centre-forwards during the 22/23 season from some of Europe’s prominent leagues, including Europe’s top five leagues.

Jacob Brown finished last season with seven goals and one assist for Stoke City, only behind Tyrese Campbell, and this was finishing as Potters’ top scorer for the 21/22 season with 13 goals.

Brown’s career has been on the up since his move from Barnsley in 2020 after an impressive 2019-20 season when he finished with the most assists for the club in the Championship.

Brown has played most of his minutes as a centre-forward, but he can also play from the right side of the attack. Confident with the ball at his feet, Brown ranked a high percentile for Dribbles per 90 minutes. Usually, Brown does not attempt a large volume of shots, although he has an excellent shot-on-target conversion.

In possession, he is capable of holding up the ball and linking up play with his teammates. He often looks for a progressive pass after dropping deep and receiving the ball at his feet.

Defensively, Jacob Brown is nothing short of amazing, and it is one of the biggest reasons, in addition to his clear goal-scoring ability, that the 25-year-old forward has almost always been in the starting XI.

He racked up solid defensive numbers during last season, and with him now securing his move to the Premier League, he will only to up his defensive efforts if he is to become a solid player at the top level.

Jacob Brown has so far impressed most with his rise from the lower levels of English football, but his move to Luton Town will be a stern individual test, and there will be a lot of eyes on him to see how he performs against some of the biggest clubs in the world.
