Now 15 match weeks into the 22/23 Serie A season, there is a surprising name at the top end of the goalscoring charts. Ademola Lookman, the 25-year-old former Leicester and Fulham forward, after moving permanently to Atalanta from RB Leipzig has seven goals to his name and is only behind Victor Osimhen and Marko Arnautović. The below visualisation shows how Lookman fares when compared with the forwards from Europe’s top-five leagues.

The biggest problem with Ademola Lookman at Leicester, Fulham or any club before this season was achieving consistency in his performances but the 25-year-old seems to be bringing that much-needed consistency to his game this season at Atalanta. Lookman is playing regularly and delivering on the pitch. The Forward ranks 95th percentile for goals per 90 minutes. He has always shown a willingness to take on the defenders quite frequently and that is shown in his percentile rank for dribbling. He has played across all the positions across the front three and it is this versatility that makes him a very good creator as well in possession — ranking 87th percentile for expected assists (xA) per 90 and 87th percentile for key passes per 90 minutes.

Ademola Lookman has struggled to find consistent game time quite often in his career so far but his move to Atalanta has started well and the forward will look to deliver more as the season progresses. His raw pace and his ability to fearlessly take on the opposition added to his improved decision-making have helped him gradually rise in the Serie A goalscoring charts. It is now time for him to take the next step in his current team and do better in the second half of the season.
