As we approach the business end of the Serie A season, it is time to look at the numbers across teams and players. One thing that is quite often being looked to in order to analyse the success levels of a team and its players is the goals scored metric.
The race for the Serie A title and the golden boot is done and dusted, most likely, with Napoli involved in both. Napoli are 14 points clear of Lazio and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is leading the race of goals with 21 goals to his name, seven ahead of second-placed Lautaro Martinez in the race, at the time of writing.
There have been some impressive contributions across all 20 teams and the below visualisation shows what percentage of goals has been scored by each team’s top scorer.
The league’s leading scorer, Victor Osimhen has scored 33% of Napoli’s goals, which is also the second highest in terms of percentage in the league. Lautaro Martinez, with 14 goals to his name, has scored 30% of Inter’s goals this season. Ademola Lookman who is having an excellent season so far at Atalanta has scored 28% of his team’s goals.
The biggest scoring contribution comes from M’Bala Nzola of Spezia. The striker has scored 57% of Spezia’s goals with only Sampdoria scoring less than Spezia in the league. Paulo Dybala is, unsurprisingly, the highest scorer at Roma and has scored 26% of their goals. Adrien Rabiot is Juventus’ highest scorer scoring 17% of his team’s goals.
When two players have the same number of goals to their name, the one with the most assists have been considered, such as in the case of Mattia Zaccagni of Lazio, who has the same number of goals as Ciro Immobile, but Zaccagni has more assists to his name. The least in terms of percentage comes from Carlos of Monza. With just five goals to his name, the defender has scored 15% of Monza’s goals.
