Inter have had a solid start to the 2023/24 season. They have scored the most goals and have conceded the fewest goals nine games into the season. To say that they have been rock-solid defensively is an understatement, and one player who has been part of that defensive unit is Federico Dimarco.

The left wing-back has been part of Inter’s setup for the last three seasons but has not been a regular starter. This time around, he has started all games except for one so far and has been good on the left side.

The below visualisation shows where Federico Dimarco ranks for some of the critical offensive, defensive and passing metrics when compared with the other left wing-backs from Europe’s top 5 leagues.

As seen in the visual above, Dimarco excels offensively and ranks above average for many offensive metrics. With three assists and one goal to his name already, Dimarco looks clear to beat his tally from last season.

Only Marcus Thuram and Felipe Anderson have recorded more assists than the 25-year-old Italy international. He also is a high-volume shooter and ranks in the top 2% for shots per 90 minutes so far.

In possession, Dimarco plays an inverted, quite often actively involved in the final phase. Ranking high for several key passing metrics, Federico Dimarco creates chances quite often for his teammates.

Defensively, he is not rock solid. His defensive positioning and ability to 1v1 duels come under question at times, but the style of play at Inter allows him to play with more freedom.

Inter have traditionally seen full-backs have successful periods at their club, and in all title-winning squads for Inter, full-backs have had an important role to play. Dimarco will look to continue his excellent start to the season and help Inter win their first title since the 2020/21 season.
