Over the last couple of seasons, RB Salzburg have dominated the Austrian Bundesliga, while RB Leipzig were among the very best teams in the German first division, and both sides showed decent performances in European competitions to make a name for themselves.

Additionally, we have seen several times that players moved from one club to the other one due to the Red Bull connection. Logically, the preferred way was usually the one from Salzburg to Leipzig since for a player the German Bundesliga is more attractive than the Austrian version of it. In this short data analysis, we will look at the players who have moved so far from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig.

In the graph below, we can see the statistics and data for all transfers except for free transfers. Overall, 17 players have joined RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg, but since seven of them were free transfers, we have only got 10 in this graph.

As we can see in the statistics above, in the last few years there were several transfers of big names like Hannes Wolf, Konrad Laimer, Hee-chan Hwang (in this summer), Amadou Haidara and Naby Keïta who now plays in the Premier League for Liverpool.

Six out of these 10 players are still part of RB Leipzig, and players like Péter Gulácsi, Dayot Upamecano and Laimer are important players for Julian Nagelsmann’s team while Haidara and Wolf are still searching for their role at Leipzig. It will be interesting to see how Hwang can settle in at his new club after his move in the summer.

We have seen in this data analysis that several players who moved from Salzburg to Leipzig are now important parts of the team there, and others went on to establish themselves at other clubs like Stefan Ilsanker (Eintracht Frankfurt), Keïta (Liverpool) and Bernardo (Brighton). Still, not every transfer works out perfectly, as we can see by looking at Benno Schmitz, but especially Wolf and Haidara as well. The two latter players are the ones who had the highest market value when they left Salzburg, of all players in this list, and yet they have not been able to settle in at Leipzig so far.
