Kevin De Bruyne equalled Thierry Henry’s long-standing record of most assists in a single league season during the 2019/20 campaign.

The Belgian has provided double-digit assists in three of the last four seasons, with the injury-plagued 2018/19 season being the only exception.

The versatile midfielder assisted his teammates for twenty goals this season, the same number as Henry’s 2002/03 tally for the Gunners.

Twenty-five per cent of De Bruyne’s assists came for Raheem Sterling.

In the below visualisation, I try to recreate the goals scored by Sterling that were assisted by De Bruyne.

Goal One vs West Ham United – 51’

Manchester City kick-started their Premier League 2019/20 campaign with 5-0 demolition of former City manager Mauricio Pellegrini’s West Ham United.

Raheem Sterling began his highest-scoring league season with a hat-trick on that day.

During the 51st minute, Kevin De Bruyne picked the ball in the central area and continued to drive forward before casually making a pass with his right foot to Sterling, who then finished with his left foot.

Goal Two vs Tottenham – 20’

After combining for a goal in the first game of the season, the pair combined once again in the following week, this time against Tottenham.

Kevin De Bruyne is probably one of the best crossers of the ball among midfielders in the league (Again, I said midfielders – you know the obvious best overall).

After receiving the ball from Bernardo Silva in the half space on the right side, De Bruyne did not take too long, crossing the first time with his right foot.

Sterling, sneaking into the box, met the cross inside the six-yard box to head it past Lloris.

Goal Three vs Arsenal – 15’

In December, in what was Mikel Arteta’s last game as assistant to Pep Guardiola, City travelled to Emirates to face Arsenal.

The team from Manchester put on a dominating first half display that saw them score three goals in the first half.

Kevin De Bruyne was the architect once again, after scoring two and assisting one for Sterling.

However this time, he assisted from the left side with his left foot.

Sterling, who is known for missing a few tap-ins, did not miss it this time around, putting away De Bruyne’s pass in the back of the net calmly with his left foot.

Goal Four vs Wolves – 50’

Wolves became only the second team to do a league double over a Pep Guardiola side when they beat the then defending champions after coming from two goals behind.

Raheem Sterling scored a brace before Wolves scored two goals in the closing minutes to seal the comeback win.

One of Sterling’s goals was assisted by De Bruyne.

This time the Belgian collected the ball near the halfway line from Rodri and played a one-touch through ball between Coady and Dendoncker to Sterling who collected the pass and continued his run into the box to chip the ball past Rui Patricio.

Goal Five vs Norwich –  79’

After combining for City’s second league goal of the season, De Bruyne and Sterling combined for their third last goal of the season as well.

In the final game of their league campaign, they faced an already-relegated Norwich City at home.

Kevin De Bruyne played a through ball which Sterling collected on the run and finished first-time past keeper Krul.
